Channing Tatum portrays Jeffrey Manchester, a charismatic ex-soldier, in the 2025 crime comedy "Roofman." The film, available on Paramount+, is based on an extraordinary true story. Jeffrey's nickname comes from his unique method of breaking into McDonald's restaurants.
Initially, Jeffrey committed crimes to buy his daughter a bicycle, but he became addicted to the thrill. He is depicted as a kind-hearted individual, even offering his jacket to McDonald's employees to prevent them from getting cold when he locked them in a walk-in freezer.
The movie, directed by Derek Cianfrance, blends romantic comedy with thriller elements. Tatum is joined by Kirsten Dunst, who plays Leigh, a devout single mother Jeffrey pursues while on the run.
Jeffrey received a 45-year sentence for robbing McDonald's outlets. He escaped and lived undetected for months in a Toys R Us store. During the night, he pilfered merchandise to give to Leigh's two daughters by day.
Leigh, an employee at the same Toys R Us branch, believed Jeffrey was an undercover agent. Peter Dinklage plays the manager of the store. The narrative becomes increasingly intricate, yet its core events are surprisingly factual.
