Indie Sales has secured international rights to "Stay," the upcoming film from Indian writer-director Rohena Gera. Her debut, "Sir," premiered at Cannes' Critics' Week in 2018 and garnered critical acclaim. "Stay" is currently in its post-production phase and is slated for introduction to potential buyers at Toronto's inaugural market.
The narrative centers on Sailee, a recently divorced Indian woman poised to inherit her father's company. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she visits Paris and falls for Leo, a delivery driver with aspirations of becoming an actor. Their budding romance faces considerable challenges.
These challenges include intense family pressure, significant class differences, and the stark economic and cultural realities that separate their lives. "Stay" promises a delicate romantic comedy that, like Gera's previous work, sensitively addresses themes of class and cultural disparity.
"Stay" is produced by Alice Bloch for Marianne Prods. and co-produced by France 2 Cinéma. Canal+, Ciné+, and France Télévisions have pre-bought the film.
