Roh Films Germany is set to produce its first Indian project since "The Lunchbox" (2013), collaborating with First Ray Films India on a new noir thriller, "But First, The Burning." The film will be helmed by acclaimed Indian director Devashish Makhija and feature actor Anshuman Jha in the lead role. French producer En Compagnie des Lamas will also join the production, with final details to be confirmed at the Berlin European Film Market.
The plot of "But First, The Burning" centers on two brothers sharing a single identity in a town gripped by desperation. A small deceit intended to enhance their survival chances escalates into a perilous contest of secrets, where only one is destined to survive. Makhija is known for his celebrated films like "Joram" and "Bhonsle," while Jha has a diverse acting background including "Love Sex Aur Dhokha."
Production for "But First, The Burning" is slated to begin in October, following the release of Jha's upcoming action sequel "Lakadbaggha 2." Both Jha and Anshuman Jha expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration. Jha highlighted the partnership's basis in "Integrity. Conviction. And unadulterated vision," anticipating it to be their most ambitious production yet. Benny Drechsel of Roh Films Germany lauded the script as highly compelling, and Sandrine Brauer of Lamas praised the creative duo and the film's necessary exploration of violence.
