Summary
- Ranbir Kapoor nearly sang all songs in Rockstar, Rahman proposed.
- Kapoor 'freaked out' upon learning he might sing for the film.
- Actors now sing in Imtiaz Ali films, starting with Alia Bhatt.

During the making of the 2011 film 'Rockstar,' music composer A.R. Rahman considered having lead actor Ranbir Kapoor sing all the songs. Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali recalled Rahman's inquiry about Kapoor's singing abilities, with the composer ready to let him record the entire album.
However, upon hearing this proposal, Ranbir Kapoor reportedly 'freaked out,' as he cannot sing. Consequently, the idea was abandoned, and professional playback singers, including Mohit Chauhan, lent their voices to the film's highly acclaimed soundtrack.
This experience, though not realized in 'Rockstar,' paved the way for actors to perform playback in Imtiaz Ali's later films. Alia Bhatt was the first to sing in one of his movies, followed by actors like Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra. Most recently, Vedang Raina showcased his singing talent on the song 'Maskara.'
Vedang Raina's contribution came about organically when he happened to be present during a discussion about the song 'Maskara' at the music supervisor's office. Impressed by his singing, he was invited to Rahman's studio, where he meticulously recorded his part, earning praise and acclaim.
