A modern reimagining of the beloved "The Rockford Files" is set to bring the classic detective back to the screen, with James Boreanaz taking on the titular role. The project centers on a recently paroled James Rockford, who returns to his Los Angeles-based private investigation career, relying on his charm and wit to solve cases while seeking legitimacy.
This new iteration updates the original series, which ran from 1974 to 1980 and starred James Garner. The updated version introduces new characters, such as Nitty, a successful defense attorney and friend of Rockford's, and retains supporting figures like Rockford's outspoken neighbor and activist. Detective Kate, with whom Rockford had a complicated romantic history, is also featured.
The pilot episode is scheduled to film in Atlanta, with subsequent filming planned for Los Angeles. The final production base for a potential series remains undecided, with considerations for California tax credits. The project is developed by writer Mike Daniels and producers Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly.
