A modern reimagining of the beloved "The Rockford Files" is underway, featuring James Boreanaz in the lead role of James Rockford. The character, recently released from prison for a crime he did not commit, navigates the Los Angeles private investigator scene with his signature charm and intelligence. His pursuit of a legitimate career quickly draws the attention of law enforcement and criminal elements.
Joining Boreanaz are Annabelle Weaver, who will portray a tenacious activist and analyst residing in Rockford's trailer park neighborhood, and Elizabeth McManus as Kate, an East Hollywood detective whose past romantic involvement with Rockford is complicated by his public accusations against fellow officers.
The original "The Rockford Files" series aired from 1974 to 1980, with James Garner originating the iconic detective role. While the narrative is set in Los Angeles, the pilot episode is scheduled to be filmed in Atlanta, with additional production planned for Los Angeles. The final filming location for a potential series has not yet been confirmed, though the production may seek California tax credits.
The project is spearheaded by writer Mike Daniels and producers Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly, with Universal Television serving as the studio.
