On November 5th, 2025, legendary Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood made a surprise appearance at the USC vs. Northwestern football game. The 78-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer donned a golden Corinthian helmet and joined the Trojan Marching Band on the field during halftime to perform Fleetwood Mac's 1979 hit "Tusk."
The song has a long history between Fleetwood Mac and USC. "Tusk" was originally recorded (in part) at Dodger Stadium with 112 members of the university's band. Fleetwood Mac later invited the Trojan Band to join them on stage at The Forum to perform the song shortly after its release, complete with baton twirlers and horses galloping through the crowd. The two acts later reunited in 1997 to record a live version of "Tusk" for Fleetwood Mac's album The Dance.
Now, close to three decades later, Fleetwood has once again teamed up with the current Trojan Marching Band to bring the iconic song to life in front of a nationally televised audience. This unexpected collaboration between the legendary drummer and the university's musical ensemble is sure to delight fans of both Fleetwood Mac and college football.
