Robyn's 'Dopamine' Explores Emotions in the Digital Age

In November 2025, Swedish pop icon Robyn released her first new solo single in seven years. Titled "Dopamine," the track is a soaring, sparkling dancefloor anthem produced in collaboration with longtime partner Klas Åhlund.

The song's lyrics offer a commentary on the way modern culture has become obsessed with quantifying and decoding our emotions through the biological data collected by our digital devices. "Everyone has a phone where they see their heart rate, and we're learning how to decode our emotions through the hormones and chemical substances in our bodies," Robyn explains.

However, the singer-songwriter says the "doubleness" of "Dopamine" lies in the tension between having a "super real, super strong, intense, enjoyable or painful" emotion, while simultaneously knowing it is "just a biological process" in the body. Rather than choosing between religion or science, Robyn aims to simply "accept that they're there together and to be able to go in between."

The track's release comes as part of a busy period for Robyn, who has remained active in the dance music world through various collaborations over the past few years. She also made headlines in early 2025 with a high-profile performance alongside David Byrne at the SNL50: The Homecoming Concert.
