Rock Legend Slams World Cup Halftime Show

The upcoming FIFA World Cup final will feature a historic first: a halftime show. However, the announcement has drawn sharp criticism from Robert Smith, frontman of The Cure. Smith took to Instagram to voice his strong opposition to the very idea of a halftime spectacle during the final match.

Despite Smith's initial outburst, he later clarified that his criticism was not directed at the performers, who are slated to include major global artists such as Madonna, Justin Bieber, Shakira, and BTS. FIFA president Gianni Infantino described the event as a "groundbreaking spectacle."

Further controversy surrounds the halftime show's proposed length. Reports suggest it could run up to 25 minutes, potentially exceeding the 15-minute player break limit stipulated in tournament regulations.

Adding to the program, musicians from the New York Philharmonic and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela are scheduled to perform a tribute. The Cure is currently on tour in Europe.
