Robbie Bennett, the keyboardist for The War on Drugs, is releasing two new solo albums, Steloken and Circulation, on December 11. These upcoming works will introduce 29 fresh tracks to his solo catalog.
Bennett recently shared a preview with one song from each album: "Sister" from Steloken and "The Light on Your Face" from Circulation.
His creative process involved using the same keyboard as in The War on Drugs. He sent MIDI data from a player piano into an Oberheim OB-X8 synthesizer, allowing both instruments to play simultaneously. Additional layers of Fender Rhodes and a specialized Soma Terra synthesizer were also employed.
Bennett described his musical intention as creating a soundscape that invites listeners to explore unfamiliar territories indefinitely. These albums follow his 2020 solo debut, Permanent World.
This release follows Bennett's recent feature on The War on Drugs' new song "Who's That" and the band's 2024 live album, Live Drugs Again.
