Margot Robbie Asked to Play Cathy in Brontë Film
5 Feb
Summary
- Margot Robbie requested the role of Cathy in the Wuthering Heights adaptation.
- The film premieres on February 5 in London, UK.
- Set design wallpaper inspired by Margot Robbie's skin.

Margot Robbie initiated her casting in Emerald Fennell's adaptation of Wuthering Heights by asking if she could portray Cathy Earnshaw. Robbie's production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, also produced the film. The casting has drawn criticism, particularly Robbie's portrayal of Cathy, who is significantly older than her late teens in Emily Brontë's 1847 novel.
Director Emerald Fennell stated her aim is to capture the novel's emotional essence rather than adhere strictly to its original depiction. Fennell also revealed unconventional creative choices, such as wallpaper for Cathy's bedroom being designed from images of Robbie's skin, intended to symbolize objectification.
The film is scheduled for its premiere in London on February 5, with a UK cinema release on February 13. The adaptation previously premiered in Los Angeles on January 28. Composer Charli XCX created a full album for the soundtrack after Fennell sent her the script.
