Rob Riggle: Marines fueled acting ambition

Actor Rob Riggle shared that his initial aspiration was to join the FBI, which unexpectedly led him to the Marine Corps. At 19, Riggle called the FBI for career advice and was told they often hired lawyers, accountants, and Marine officers. Opting for military service, Riggle served for 23 years, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel and completing deployments in Afghanistan and Kosovo.

During his extensive military career, Riggle found that his confidence grew significantly, leading him to believe he could pursue acting. He noted that his time in the Marines showed him his potential and expanded his perceived limits. This newfound self-assurance paved the way for his eventual transition into comedy and acting, including a stint on 'Saturday Night Live' and a role on 'The Daily Show.'

Riggle has spoken about the parallels between military adventurous training and acting. He described his first stand-up comedy performance as a different, emotional kind of terror compared to his military experiences. He emphasized that earning the title of Marine is a rigorous process requiring completion of boot camp.
