The 98th Academy Awards ceremony, scheduled for March 15, 2026, will include a poignant tribute to the late filmmaker Rob Reiner. He and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, tragically died in their Los Angeles home on December 14, 2025. Their middle child, Nick Reiner, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder with special circumstances. Nick has pleaded not guilty to the charges and remains in custody.
Oscar producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan have indicated that the "in memoriam" segment will be extended this year to commemorate notable industry figures lost recently. Host Conan O'Brien, returning for the event, commented that the tribute to Reiner will be "a very powerful part of the show."
Nick Reiner, 32, waived his right to a speedy trial and is next due in court on April 29. If convicted, he faces life imprisonment without parole or the death penalty. Reiner was an Oscar-nominated producer for 'A Few Good Men' and directed Kathy Bates' Oscar-winning role in 'Misery.' The ceremony will broadcast live on ABC and Hulu at 7 pm ET.
