RM (Kim Namjoon), leader of BTS, has co-curated "RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me," his first museum exhibition, opening October 3 and running until February 7, 2027. This exhibition showcases nearly 200 artworks from his personal collection, complemented by 36 pieces from SFMOMA. The collection spans centuries and includes paintings, sculpture, furniture, ceramics, textiles, and animation by both Korean and international artists.
The exhibition deliberately avoids a linear historical timeline, instead fostering conversations between diverse artists and cultures. RM expressed a desire to connect art across different times and places, including works from America and other international locations. This approach highlights his personal engagement with art, which began after a 2018 visit to The Art Institute of Chicago.
RM's passion extends beyond collecting; he previously donated to support Korean art book distribution and narrated an audio guide for LACMA. He was also appointed the National Museum of Korea's first Global Public Relations Ambassador. The exhibition, particularly the "I Don't Know, But I Like It" section, reflects his candid approach to art appreciation, even including a depiction of Pikachu to symbolize feelings about fame and isolation.
"RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me" offers visitors an intimate look at RM's artistic sensibilities, encouraging personal connections with art. The exhibition aims to serve as a bridge, allowing RM's global fanbase and a broader audience to engage with a wide array of international art, celebrating the connections found in both the grand and the seemingly insignificant.
