Riya Mahesh Melds Medicine and Music

Riya Mahesh, a Texas-born musician now based in Boston, has carved out a unique artistic niche as Quiet Light. Balancing her medical school studies with her burgeoning music career, Mahesh has released her seventh album, "Blue Angel Sparkling Silver 2." This latest offering is described as her most refined to date, showcasing a sophisticated blend of atmospheric beatmaking, ethereal harmonies, and impressionistic songwriting.

Mahesh's musical journey began during the pandemic, evolving from early experiments on SoundCloud and Logic into a distinct art pop sound. Her discography includes explorations into diaristic folk-pop, witch house, and experimental loop-based collages. The artist often refers to her work as "dream sequences," characterized by a loose logic and hazy textures that evoke ambiguous narratives, frequently addressing an elusive "you."

The lead single, "Berlin," exemplifies her developed sound, featuring raw emotional honesty over a bleary harmonica and Auto-Tuned vocals. The track captures the agony of a complex relationship, building to a climax with a shuffling dance beat and a sax revelation, demonstrating her refined storytelling. This release marks a significant step in her career, solidifying her artistic identity.
