12 Nov
Summary
- Rival Sons singer Jay Buchanan releases solo album 'Weapons of Beauty'
- Buchanan wrote songs in Mojave Desert "solitude"
- Reunites with producer Dave Cobb for the 10-track project

In a surprising move, Rival Sons frontman Jay Buchanan is stepping out on his own with the release of his debut solo album, 'Weapons of Beauty,' on February 6th, 2025. The 10-track project marks a departure from Buchanan's work with his main band, as he reunites with producer Dave Cobb, who has overseen Rival Sons' recent albums.
According to the announcement, Buchanan wrote the songs that make up 'Weapons of Beauty' "in the solitude of an underground bunker deep in the Mojave Desert." This introspective approach is evident in the album's first single, "Caroline," which Buchanan says allows him to "pay respect to those deep chasms in your life without wallowing in them."
While Buchanan is venturing out on his own, Rival Sons remain active, with the group set to embark on the second annual Little Steven's Underground Garage Cruise in April 2026. Buchanan, who recently delivered a standout performance of "Fortunate Son" at a BMI tribute to John Fogerty in Nashville, is eager to share his solo work with fans, stating, "This approach is right with me and I've just come to a point where there is no longer a choice. Weapons of Beauty is the sound of these plates shifting within me, too loud to ignore."
