Ricky Gervais brings his distinctive comedic style to animation with the new Netflix series "Alley Cats." Gervais voices Gus, a portly, potty-mouthed tabby cat, finding a unique creative outlet that requires minimal personal upkeep.
The creator of "The Office" also co-directed and wrote the series, aiming for a naturalistic feel by having the voice cast record dialogue collaboratively. This approach fostered improvisation and organic interactions, deviating from typical animation production methods.
"Alley Cats" combines Gervais's trademark social commentary with heartfelt storylines. The series, featuring a cast including Tom Basden and Kerry Godliman, will launch its first season of six 15-minute episodes on Netflix on August 7, 2026.
