- Stuart Scott was unhappy with Eisen's ambition.
- Eisen later formed a successful partnership with Stuart Scott.
Rich Eisen's new series, "This Was SportsCenter," premiered with a revealing episode featuring Dan Patrick. During their conversation, Eisen shared his desire to take over Patrick's anchor chair on "SportsCenter" following Keith Olbermann's 1997 exit. This move, Eisen admitted, upset Stuart Scott, with whom he was developing a strong on-air rapport. Scott reportedly felt Eisen was disregarding their budding partnership.
Despite Eisen's initial disappointment at not getting the chair next to Patrick (which went to Kenny Mayne), he eventually found significant success. Eisen and Scott forged a highly regarded "SportsCenter" pairing. However, Eisen acknowledged the difficult 1 a.m. broadcast schedule and his preference for working with Patrick. The series aims to explore the legacies of "SportsCenter" anchors, with future episodes featuring other ESPN personalities.
