Ram Gopal Varma's 'Police Company,' featuring Harshvardhan Rane as encounter specialist Daya Nayak, has commenced shooting. This period crime thriller is set to be released as a two-part franchise, with both installments filmed concurrently.
The initial plan was for a web series, but Varma advocated for a theatrical release, believing the story demanded a big-screen treatment. The film draws inspiration from the operations of the Mumbai Police's "Encounter Squad" from the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Harshvardhan Rane will portray Daya Nayak, while other key squad members will be played by new actors. The project is expected to conclude filming by the end of this year, with the first part scheduled for release in mid-2027 and the second to follow a few months later.
