The Silhouette Band, an eight-piece ensemble of friends aged between 60 and 80, are set to perform at the Stockport Plaza. This group, originating from Manchester, specializes in playing 1960s pop and rock and roll hits, infusing them with a distinctive Burt Bacharach-style arrangements that incorporate piano, guitar, strings, wind instruments, and vocal harmonies. Their upcoming performance is their biggest to date and is dedicated to raising vital funds for the Alzheimer's Society.
Founded in 2017, the band reimagines classics by artists such as The Beatles, Elvis, and Dusty Springfield. Band members express their passion for music, noting its universal appeal and its positive impact on well-being and mental sharpness. For founding member Bev Ross, the 1960s music was a new discovery, introduced by her husband Rod Peters, after a childhood where only classical music was permitted. This shared love for the era's music underpins their performances.
The upcoming Stockport Plaza concert holds special significance as all profits will be donated to the Alzheimer's Society. This cause is particularly close to singer Carol Beardmore, whose daughter was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's in 2019. Grace Burke from the Alzheimer's Society expressed gratitude, highlighting the event as a joyful celebration of music and community that will aid their work supporting individuals affected by dementia.
