Rivers Name India's Republic Day Enclosures
26 Jan
Summary
- Enclosures for Republic Day are named after Indian rivers.
- Traditional 'VVIP' labels have been replaced by river names.
- Indian musical instruments will name enclosures for Beating Retreat.

For the 77th Republic Day Parade, enclosures set up along Kartavya Path have been uniquely named after rivers flowing in India, including the Ganga, Yamuna, Krishna, and Narmada. This move replaces traditional designations like 'VVIP' with names such as Beas, Brahmaputra, and Kaveri, as indicated by layout maps and banners.
This theme extends to the Beating Retreat Ceremony on January 29, where enclosures will be named after Indian musical instruments such as bansuri, tabla, and veena. This year's Republic Day celebrations are prominently themed around the sesquicentenary of 'Vande Mataram,' with backdrops on Kartavya Path showcasing old paintings illustrating its opening stanzas. The celebration will feature tunes like 'Sare Jehan Se Achha' alongside 'Vande Mataram.'
Chief guests at this year's parade are President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council Antonio Costa. The event aims to foster a strong sense of national pride and cultural appreciation through these distinctive naming conventions.
