Renowned Hubballi Theatreperson Yashavant Sardeshpande Passes Away at 60

Last month, on September 25th, 2025, the Kannada theatre community mourned the passing of renowned playwright and director Yashavant Sardeshpande. The 60-year-old theatreperson, who hailed from Vijayapura, died of a heart attack in Bengaluru.

Sardeshpande had made a significant impact on the Kannada performing arts scene over the past few decades. He was known for his comedy plays that often featured the Dharwad dialect, as well as his work in television, including shows like "Paapa Pandu" and "Dashaavataara." Sardeshpande had also acted in Kannada, Marathi, and Hindi films, and was honored with a state award for his dialogues in the Kannada movie "Raama Shaama Bhaama."

In addition to his creative pursuits, Sardeshpande played a crucial role in organizing cultural events of national importance, such as the Republic Day parade in Delhi and the 8th Asian Track and Field Meet. He had also established the Adi Ranga Theatre School in Hubballi, which he built on a 36-acre land provided by the Hubballi-Dharwad Urban Development Authority.

Sardeshpande's passing has left a void in the Kannada theatre scene, as he was widely respected for his contributions to the art form. His legacy will continue to inspire aspiring artists and theatre enthusiasts in the region.
