In 2025, renowned artist Peter Brown, also known as "Pete the Street", has released a new book titled "Bristol Paintings" that showcases his work capturing the city's vibrant landscapes and street scenes. Brown, who has spent the past 32 years painting cityscapes around the world, including in Bath, London, and New York, only recently discovered Bristol during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Brown, the process of drawing and painting Bristol has helped him truly discover the city's character. "The best compliment is when people say 'I've lived here all my life and you've captured it'," he remarked. The 58-year-old artist, who began painting at the age of 15, hopes his book will inspire readers to explore new places and revisit familiar locations in Bristol.
Despite his extensive experience painting cities globally, Brown admitted it took him "ages" to venture to Bristol with his art supplies. However, once he did, he felt "like a kid in a sweet shop," captivated by the city's unique industrial landscape, bustling traffic scenes, and charming residential areas. Brown believes he has only scratched the surface of Bristol's visual richness and is still discovering new aspects of the city through his work.
