Phantasm Star Reggie Bannister Dies at 80

Reggie Bannister, renowned for his iconic role in the "Phantasm" horror series, has died at the age of 80. His passing occurred early Sunday morning at his home in the San Bernardino County mountains. Bannister's wife shared that he died peacefully at home.

His health had significantly declined recently, leading to immobility. Previously, his wife's own medical issues complicated his care, necessitating a search for a full-time facility.

Bannister's passing is attributed to complications from Agent Orange exposure during his Vietnam service, which led to battles with Lewy body dementia and Parkinson's disease. He was celebrated as a horror icon for his portrayal of an ice cream vendor-turned-action hero in the "Phantasm" films, starting with the 1979 cult classic.

Beyond his acting career, Bannister was also a musician, often performing with his wife. The couple met in 1995 and married in 2001. The family intends to hold multiple memorial services, including a public celebration for fans and fellow musicians.
