A pub regularly frequented by Reg Presley, the iconic frontman of The Troggs, now features a mural painted in his memory. Presley, celebrated for his chart-topping songs like 'Wild Thing' and 'Love Is All Around,' often visited The Barge Inn near Pewsey, Wiltshire, during his research into UFOs and crop circles.
The striking artwork, created by artist Paul Boswell, was a surprise for Presley's wife, Brenda Ball. It prominently displays the Alton Barnes White Horse alongside a UFO, elements reflecting the singer's deep interest in the paranormal phenomena of the region. Boswell explained that he drew inspiration from the band's distinctive pinstriped suits, transforming the stripes into crop circles.
The Barge Inn served as a fitting location, as Boswell noted it was a hub for UFO and crop circle enthusiasts in the 1990s, a period Presley was actively involved in the local scene. The pub's owner, Alistair Sinclair, expressed his joy at having the mural in his establishment.
Last Thursday, Presley's family and fans, who contributed to crowdfunding the piece, attended a celebration at the pub. Ball fondly recalled her husband's down-to-earth nature and his passion for 'weird and wonderful' subjects, particularly his engagement with crop circles and local enthusiasts.
