A film from 1989, 'In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones,' is experiencing a resurgence through recent screenings. This campus movie, featuring Booker Prize-winning author Arundhati Roy and a cameo by Shah Rukh Khan, captured the eccentricities of architecture students in a 1974 Delhi college. Roy recently reflected on the experience of revisiting her younger self in the film, calling it a 'celebration of utter ridiculousness.'
Director Pradip Krishen noted that ten members of the cast and crew have passed away in the 38 years since its creation. The film's unique depiction of westernized, elite, and idealistic students contrasted sharply with typical Indian cinema characters of its time. Arjun Raina, who played Annie, found seeing the restored film emotionally healing, stating, 'We suddenly have a heritage through this film.'
Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, responsible for the film's restoration, highlighted its enduring appeal. He observed that audiences in India reacted similarly to those in Germany during the film's recent premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival. Despite the passage of time, the film's magic continues to connect with viewers.
