The 5th Red Sea International Film Festival concluded with Akio Fujimoto's Rohingya refugee drama 'Lost Land' clinching the prestigious Golden Yusr for best feature film. This award-winning film, previously recognized at Venice and the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, depicts the arduous journey of two young siblings from a refugee camp in Bangladesh to Malaysia in search of family.
Further acclaim was bestowed upon Cherien Dabis' poignant Palestinian drama 'All That's Left of You,' which secured the Silver Yusr. This critically lauded film chronicles three generations of Palestinians, exploring the deep-seated impacts of the Nakba. It has also been selected as Jordan's official submission for the upcoming Academy Awards.
Jeddah-born filmmaker Shahad Ameen's road movie 'Hijra' was honored with the Yusr jury prize and the Film AlUla best Saudi film award, underscoring Saudi cinema's growing international presence. Additional awards recognized Syrian director Ameer Fakher Eldin for 'Yunan' and celebrated performances from George Khabbaz and Juliette Binoche.
