Summary
- Film follows a coach guiding misfit teens to music stardom.
- Features former pop stars like Nicole Scherzinger and Mel C.
- Movie balances humor with themes of image and sexuality.

Set in 1997 London, "Girl Group" begins with the formation of the Gurlfriends girl band at a London school. The narrative quickly shifts to the present day, where washed-up pop star Tassie (Rebel Wilson) is sentenced to community service at a youth center. There, she is tasked with coaching a group of ambitious Gen Z musicians for an upcoming competition. Tassie sees this as an opportunity to revive her own career.
The film attempts to explore generational divides regarding female sexuality and pop-star image, though these themes remain underdeveloped. Much of the humor relies on bawdy jokes and size-related gags, with cameos from Jennifer Coolidge. Despite Wilson's performance, the true strength lies in the rapport among the younger cast members, particularly Chabely Ponce and Lilah Pate.
