As of October 9th, 2025, it has been revealed that despite Jessica's absence in the previous Dune Messiah film, director Denis Villeneuve has found a way to incorporate Rebecca Ferguson's version of the character into the story. This unexpected move has impressed Ferguson, who is curious to see how much screen time she will share with Timothée Chalamet's portrayal of Paul Atreides.
The good news is that if the Children of Dune film, which follows the events of Dune Messiah, is also adapted, Ferguson will have a major role to play as Lady Jessica. However, the bad news is that Villeneuve will not be directing this potential sequel, as he has decided to exit the franchise. Given the critical and commercial success of the Dune films, it is likely that Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary will want to continue the series, and Ferguson's involvement will be crucial.
