Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, the anticipated sequel to the 2019 horror-comedy, has premiered at SXSW. The film resumes immediately after the events of the first, with Grace (Samara Weaving) surviving a brutal game of hide-and-seek that ended in a violent sacrifice attempt.
Grace awakens in a hospital and reunites with her estranged sister, Faith (Kathryn Newton). However, their reunion is interrupted by wealthy cultists who must now complete the sacrifice Grace's groom's family failed to perform. This new round of hide-and-seek offers the winner control of the world, raising the stakes considerably.
The sequel significantly increases the gore, as characters face dire consequences for breaking the rules set by the satanic benefactor, Mr. Le Bail. Elijah Wood joins the cast as a nameless Lawyer, tasked with overseeing the deadly competition and expanding the established lore, hinting at a potential trilogy conclusion.
Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton deliver compelling performances as sisters who must unite to survive the night, balancing humor with the exploration of deep-seated familial pain. The ensemble cast, including Sarah Michelle Gellar and Shawn Hatosy, further enriches the narrative with their portrayals of privileged elites caught in the deadly game.
