Reading Rainbow Soars Back: 24 New Episodes Coming
23 Feb
Summary
- Reading Rainbow is returning with a 24-episode season.
- Mychal Threets reprises his role as host for the revival.
- The series seeks a TV network or streaming service partner.

The classic children's educational series, Reading Rainbow, has been officially revived with a confirmed 24-episode season. Mychal Threets, a familiar face on social media as Mychal the Librarian, is set to host the new episodes. Kristen McGregor, experienced from "Sesame Street" and "Ms. Rachel," will serve as executive producer and showrunner.
Last year, Reading Rainbow saw a successful relaunch with four digital episodes on YouTube, attracting approximately 4.8 million views. While these shorter episodes will continue to be available, Sony Pictures Television is actively seeking a broadcast or streaming partner for the full 24-episode season. Negotiations are reportedly in progress.
The revival also represents a positive development for public media. Buffalo Toronto Public Media, a station based in Buffalo, New York, anticipates a new revenue stream once a distribution deal is finalized. This comes after past funding challenges for public broadcasting initiatives.
