Raveena's Cosmic Punjabi Princess Album Soars

Raveena's latest album, Asha's Awakening, presents a unique concept centered on a Punjabi space princess. This sophomore effort marks a significant artistic evolution, drawing inspiration from both Western and South Asian traditions.

The New York singer-songwriter fuses these influences into a compelling mix of danceable R&B tracks and serene ballads. Incorporating South Asian instruments and singing in both English and Hindi, Raveena explores themes of personal growth and modern culture. Standout tracks like "Rush" offer blissed-out soundscapes, while "Kismet" energizes with handclaps and rhythmic verses.

Collaborations enhance the album's rich tapestry. "Secret" features Vince Staples, playfully referencing early 2000s Bollywood trends. The track "Asha's Kiss" is a centerpiece duet with Asha Puthli, highlighting a generational meeting over sitar and tabla. Rostam contributes to "Time Flies," providing a sublime backdrop for Raveena's introspective reflections.

While the album largely succeeds in its tranquil atmosphere, certain elements offer mixed results. A spoken-word interlude on technology and a lengthy guided meditation at the album's close provide moments of reflection but may feel less cohesive to some listeners.
