Actor Vishnu Vishal has disclosed the tumultuous journey behind the critically acclaimed psychological thriller 'Ratsasan'. The 2018 blockbuster, which also starred Amala Paul, was offered to Vishnu Vishal only after 17 other leading actors had turned down the opportunity. This revelation came during a promotional event for his upcoming film, 'Gatta Kusthi 2'.
Vishnu Vishal recounted that upon hearing the script, he immediately agreed to star in 'Ratsasan'. However, the project faced further complications when the director, Ram Kumar, briefly partnered with a different producer. This led to Jai being announced as the lead, causing disappointment for Vishnu Vishal. The film eventually circled back to him after the alternative production failed to materialize.
Reflecting on this period, the actor expressed a lingering feeling of being a secondary choice, a sentiment that persisted for a considerable time. He clarified that he held no grievances against director Ram Kumar, noting similar experiences with earlier films like 'Indru Netru Naalai'.
Despite the initial casting hurdles, 'Ratsasan' achieved significant commercial success and critical acclaim. The film's gripping narrative and intense performances were widely lauded, establishing it as one of the most memorable suspense thrillers in Tamil cinema and a turning point for Vishnu Vishal's career.
