Chicago-based indie rock band Ratboys has unveiled their authentic sound after 16 years of dedicated musical evolution. Their latest album, Singin' to an Empty Chair, represents a significant milestone for the group, reflecting their long-standing commitment to their craft.
Lead singer and guitarist Julia Steiner, along with guitarist Dave Sagan, started writing songs together in college. After relocating to Chicago, they formed Ratboys, recruiting different touring members over the years, even documenting ten drummers in a decade-anniversary zine. This extensive history has shaped their unique musical identity.
The band's current members, including bassist Sean Neumann and drummer Marcus Nuccio, utilize a dedicated basement practice space in Chicago's Montclare neighborhood. This space serves not only as a creative hub but also as a repository for the band's history, containing mementos from their eight years there and a collection of artifacts from their extensive career.
