In 2025, a new photo book titled "ROCKY HORROR: A Behind the Scenes Look at the Cult Classic" is set to be released, offering a rare glimpse into the making of the 1975 cult classic film. The book features photographs taken by renowned photographer Mick Rock, who was granted unprecedented access to the Rocky Horror Picture Show set during its production.
Rock, known for his iconic work with 1970s music legends like David Bowie and Queen, was the only photographer allowed on the set. Director Jim Sharman and writer Richard O'Brien provided Rock with unrestrained access, allowing him to capture a collection of behind-the-scenes images that showcase how the production came together.
The book, which includes a foreword by O'Brien, also features commentary and memories from Rock himself. O'Brien reflects on the "symbiotic relationship" between Rock and the film's lead actor, Tim Curry, who portrayed the iconic character of Frank-N-Furter.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, was initially considered a flop upon its release in 1975. However, over the decades, the film has developed a dedicated cult following, with midnight screenings solidifying its status as a punk-rock staple. The newly unveiled photographs offer a unique perspective on the production's early days, before the film's enduring legacy was established.
