Kantara Daiva Case: HC Refuses Special Treatment for Ranveer
23 Feb
Summary
- Karnataka HC denied urgent hearing to Ranveer Singh's plea.
- Celebrity status doesn't warrant preferential court treatment.
- Hearing for the Kantara Daiva case is scheduled for Feb 24.

The Karnataka High Court has declined Ranveer Singh's request for an expedited hearing concerning his plea to dismiss criminal proceedings initiated against him. Singh had approached the High Court seeking to quash charges related to alleged disrespectful remarks made at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. He was accused of mimicking sacred traditions from the film Kantara.
The court, led by Justice M Nagaprasanna, observed that being a celebrity does not grant Singh preferential treatment. The matter was consequently scheduled for a formal hearing on February 24. Previously, a private complaint was filed, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against the actor for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
