Ranveer Singh Reworks Kantara Apology for Chamundi Devi Remarks
10 Apr
Summary
- Ranveer Singh will file a revised apology affidavit regarding Kantara remarks.
- The controversy stems from remarks made at the IFFI Goa event.
- The Karnataka High Court adjourned the hearing to April 23.

Actor Ranveer Singh informed the Karnataka High Court on Friday that he is prepared to submit a revised apology affidavit addressing remarks made about Chamundi Devi in relation to the film Kantara. This submission was made before Justice M. Nagaprasanna during the ongoing hearing of a petition concerning the controversy.
Singh's counsel stated that the actor had already filed an affidavit expressing regret and was willing to submit a revised version. The affidavit mentioned that Singh did not initially realize his remarks could offend devotees and affirmed his respect for all faiths. He had also undertaken to visit the deity's temple.
The complainant, however, argued that the initial apology lacked genuine remorse and requested a properly filed affidavit. The actor's legal team agreed to discuss the wording with the complainant and submit a revised affidavit. The court has scheduled the next hearing for April 23.
The controversy originated from a speech Singh gave at the International Film Festival of India in Goa, where he referred to Chamundi Devi as a "female ghost" and mimicked a scene from Kantara. These comments led to significant criticism on social media, prompting a police investigation and an FIR against Singh.
