Original Lakshman on Ranbir's Rama: 'Harsh' portrayal

Nitesh Tiwari's ambitious film, Ramayana Part 1, is scheduled for a grand theatrical release during Diwali 2026. The recently unveiled teaser has garnered a mixed reception, with discussions centering on visual effects and casting choices, particularly Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama.

Sunil Lahri, who famously portrayed Lakshman in the iconic 1980s television series Ramayan, shared his thoughts on Kapoor's casting. Lahri observed that while Kapoor's acting is commendable, the portrayal seems to miss the inherent calm and innocence associated with Lord Rama. He suggested that Ranbir's intense demeanor might be better suited for characters like Lakshman or Bharat.

Further details reveal Ranbir Kapoor will embody a dual role, also appearing briefly as Lord Parshurama. During the teaser launch event, Kapoor elaborated on his approach, emphasizing the importance of understanding the spirituality and emotional depth of these divine characters. He explained his use of body language and voice modulations to differentiate the personalities.

The Nitesh Tiwari directorial boasts an ensemble cast including Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. The film is slated for a Diwali 2026 release, with a subsequent part anticipated for Diwali 2027, marking a significant cinematic endeavor.
