Filmmaker Subhash Ghai Eyes Ramtek for Mega Film City
11 Apr
Summary
- A new film city is planned for Ramtek, featuring education and entertainment.
- The project aims to surpass Whistling Woods International in scale.
- Ramtek's cultural heritage, linked to Kalidasa, inspires the film city.

Ramtek is poised to become a major center for cinema and culture with plans for a groundbreaking film city. Minister of State Ashish Jaiswal recently met with renowned filmmaker Subhash Ghai to advance the project, which is expected to be a comprehensive hub for film, education, and entertainment.
Ghai is slated to visit the proposed site in Ramtek in June for an on-ground assessment. The initiative, part of the Ramtek Development Plan's Phase II, aims to establish state-of-the-art filming infrastructure and a training center intended to be larger than Ghai's own Whistling Woods International.
The project, announced by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the state budget, is envisioned to boost tourism while preserving Ramtek's heritage. This includes leveraging the region's historical association with the classical poet Kalidasa, whose work is believed to have been inspired by the area.
