Last-Minute Deal Saves Ramla Ali Boxing Film Premiere

The upcoming British boxing biopic "In the Shadow," chronicling the life of British-Somali boxer Ramla Ali, has been saved from collapse. Its U.K. distributor, True Brit Entertainment, filed for administration in late September, jeopardizing the film's release. Producers Lee Magiday and Madeleine Sanderson orchestrated a swift rescue by securing additional financial backing from the film's executive producers. This support allows for a theatrical self-release in the U.K. following its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on October 9th.

The film, directed by Anthony Wonke and starring Jasmine Jobson as Ali, tells the inspiring story of a refugee who became the first Somali-British professional boxing champion. It highlights Ali's determination to overcome obstacles both in and out of the ring, including becoming the first boxer to represent Somalia at the 2020 Olympic Games and participating in the first professional female boxing match in Saudi Arabia. The narrative also explores her love story with Richard Moore.

Following its premiere, "In the Shadow" is set to screen in over 30 U.K. venues. A special event on October 30th at London's Genesis Cinema will include a screening and Q&A with Ali. This promotional effort aligns closely with Ali's world title fight scheduled for November 8th in the U.S. The film's journey to the screen mirrors Ali's own battles, emphasizing themes of hope, cultural acceptance, and love.
