The upcoming epic film 'Ramayana' has been declared tax-free in West Bengal, announced Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. This decision was revealed during the Dussehra festivities at Central Park in Kolkata, where Adhikari was joined by actors Ranbir Kapoor and Yash.
The Chief Minister stated that 'Ramayana' joins a growing list of films granted tax-free status in the state, including 'The Kerala Story' and 'The Kashmir Files'. He also expressed enthusiasm for future mythological films, such as those centered on Shri Krishna, Arjuna, and the Mahabharata.
This announcement follows producer Namit Malhotra's reveal of a multi-project 'Ramayana Cinematic Universe,' which includes spin-off films for characters like Hanuman, Surpanakha, and Indrajit. The 'Ramayana' film itself stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Sai Pallavi as Sita, with Yash portraying Ravana. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, it is planned as a two-part cinematic event.
Ranbir Kapoor conveyed his gratitude for the warm reception in Kolkata, highlighting the film's message of truth and goodness triumphing over evil. Yash shared his personal connection to the city, recalling the beginnings of his theatre career there, and echoed the Dussehra theme of good's ultimate victory.
