Ramayana Makers Issue Legal Warning Over Piracy
8 Nov
Summary
- Makers warn against unauthorized cinema recording and online sharing.
- Offenders face criminal, civil, and contempt proceedings via Bombay HC.
- Ramayana Part 1 nears Rs 200 crore mark domestically.

The producers of 'Ramayana: Part 1' have initiated legal measures to combat film piracy, specifically targeting unauthorized recordings made within cinemas and subsequently shared online. A notice issued by the film's team explicitly states that offenders will face criminal, civil, and contempt proceedings, acting under a directive from the Bombay High Court.
This legal stance follows the film's successful release on November 5, 2026. 'Ramayana: Part 1', featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Yash as Ravana, is performing exceptionally well at the box office, approaching ₹200 crore in India and drawing considerable international audiences.
The Bombay High Court's orders from November 2 and November 6, 2026, have officially restrained all individuals from recording or distributing any part of the film without authorization. Such actions constitute copyright infringement and are punishable offenses under various Indian laws, including the Copyright Act, 1957, and the Cinematograph Act, 1952.
Producers urge those who have already posted unauthorized content to remove it immediately. Failure to comply will result in their being reported to authorities and relevant online platforms, with potential legal repercussions ensuing. The second installment is slated for a Diwali 2028 release.
