This demand is directed at director Nitesh Tiwari and the production company, ahead of the film's scheduled Diwali 2026 theatrical release in India and internationally.
The organization seeks to ensure the film aligns with Hindu sentiments, recalling objections raised during the release of the 2023 film Adipurush. Concerns cited previously included the depiction of Lanka and key characters. The Mahasangh stated that information suggests Ramayana may contain scenes that could offend Hindus globally.
If the filmmakers do not accede to the preview screening request, the Shri Ramlila Mahasangh, in conjunction with various Hindu organizations, has vowed to stage protests. These demonstrations are planned to occur outside cinema halls in Delhi and other states across India.
Ramayana: Part 1 is set for a Diwali 2026 release, with Part 2 anticipated for Diwali 2027. The film's trailer features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Yash as Ravana, and Sai Pallavi as Sita, with music by Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman.
