Varma: Why SRK's fans expect films I can't make

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma recently articulated his casting philosophy, emphasizing that an actor's suitability for a role supersedes their star power. He pointed to Amitabh Bachchan, describing his "immobile face" as a key strength that allows for powerful expression through eyes and voice modulation, imbuing performances with inherent dignity and class.

Varma further clarified why a cinematic partnership with Shah Rukh Khan is unlikely. He explained that their respective appeals and artistic leanings diverge significantly. Varma's own filmmaking, influenced by gritty dramas of the past, aligns more closely with Bachchan's style, whereas Khan's early career success in romantic films does not resonate with Varma's preferences.

Consequently, Varma admitted he is not equipped to direct films that meet the high expectations of Shah Rukh Khan's fanbase. He recalled passing on Khan for the film Company, feeling the role's required stillness conflicted with the actor's naturally energetic demeanor.
