11 Feb
Summary
- Actor Rajpal Yadav surrendered to Tihar Jail for a Rs 9 crore cheque bounce case.
- The case dates back to a Rs 5 crore loan taken in 2010 for a failed film.
- Several industry figures offered financial assistance after his sentencing.

Actor Rajpal Yadav surrendered to Tihar Jail on February 5, 2026, to begin serving a six-month sentence. This follows a Delhi High Court order on February 2, 2026, directing his surrender in a decade-old cheque bounce case involving approximately Rs 9 crores.
The legal proceedings originated from a Rs 5 crore loan Yadav took in 2010 from M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to fund his film 'Ata Pata Laapata'. The film's commercial failure led to accumulated interest and penalties, escalating the debt to around Rs 9 crores.
Despite Yadav's counsel offering a Rs 25 lakh demand draft and a new payment schedule on February 5, 2026, the court upheld the surrender order. Subsequently, Yadav presented himself at Tihar Jail, where standard procedures were followed.
