19 Feb
Summary
- Actor Rajpal Yadav advocates for designated smoking zones in jails.
- Yadav believes prisons should prioritize rehabilitation and support inmates.
- He was released on bail after depositing Rs 1.5 crore in a cheque-bounce case.

Actor Rajpal Yadav, following his temporary release from Tihar Jail, has proposed the establishment of designated smoking areas within correctional facilities. He drew parallels to existing smoking zones at railway stations and airports, suggesting that prisons should primarily serve as centers for inmate reform and rehabilitation.
Yadav emphasized that it is often challenging to categorize individuals within the prison system, distinguishing between those with a history of serious offenses and those who may have committed a single mistake. He intends to address legal inquiries through his lawyer, Bhaskar Upadhyay, and plans to limit media interactions for two days due to a family wedding.
The actor's release was contingent upon depositing Rs 1.5 crore with the complainant, Murali Projects Pvt Ltd, as part of a cheque-bounce case where he owed nearly Rs 9 crore. His sentence was suspended by the Delhi High Court until March 18. Following his surrender, fellow actors Sonu Sood and Gurmeet Choudhary, along with music composer Rao Inderjit Yadav, provided financial assistance to his family and encouraged public support.
