Superstar Rajinikanth Honors Mentor Who Launched His Iconic Film Career

On November 16, 2025, legendary Indian actor Rajinikanth paid his last respects to his acting teacher, KS Narayanasamy, also known as Gopali, following the latter's passing due to age-related causes. Rajinikanth marked the occasion by garlanding his teacher, acknowledging the significant role Gopali played in his life and career.

Gopali was known for his dedication as an acting instructor at the Madras Film Institute, where Rajinikanth received his early education in acting. During Rajinikanth's time as a student, Gopali provided essential training and guidance that helped refine the actor's skills. Out of his care for Rajinikanth, Gopali later introduced him to director K Balachander during a visit by the director to the institute. This introduction proved instrumental in Rajinikanth's entry into the film industry in 1975.

Rajinikanth has maintained a strong sense of respect and admiration for Gopali, owing to the pivotal role the teacher played in his development as an actor. The bond between teacher and student remained strong, grounded in gratitude and mutual respect. Beyond his work as a teacher, Gopali also contributed to the world of cinema through his work in several media companies, including Doordarshan, where he wrote film critiques throughout his career.
