Summary
- Rajesh Kumar left acting in 2017 for farming in Gaya, Bihar.
- He faced floods, COVID disruptions, and water scarcity.
- Spirituality helped him cope with a Rs 2 crore debt.

Rajesh Kumar, widely recognized for his role as Rosesh in 'Sarabhai vs Sarabhai,' made a notable career shift in 2017, departing from acting to focus on farming in his native Gaya, Bihar. This decision was significantly influenced by spiritual leader Sadhguru, whose teachings encouraged Kumar to explore agriculture more deeply.
His five-year farming journey, however, was fraught with challenges. Kumar encountered severe natural adversies, including a devastating flood that destroyed his initial plantations and later, a lack of water for his subsequent tree-planting efforts. The COVID-19 pandemic also disrupted his ventures, contributing to a significant financial strain.
These persistent setbacks led to a substantial debt of Rs 2 crore. Despite facing extreme financial hardship, which included selling vegetables outside his son's school, Kumar found solace and strength in his spirituality, which he states prevented him from succumbing to anxiety or depression.
Kumar has since made progress in managing his financial situation. As of April 2026, he reported that his debt had been reduced to approximately Rs 20 lakh, with only 10-15% of the total debt remaining. He has also returned to acting, appearing in various films and projects.
