Born in Baracoa, Cuba, Pineda immigrated to the United States shortly before his 20th birthday and became a transformative figure in Spanish-language television journalism in New York. He began his career in 1968 and joined WXTV (N+ Univision New York) in 1972, where he would serve as lead news anchor until 1988.
Pineda hosted the first Spanish-language local interview program in the tri-state area, 'Punto y Aparte,' until 1989. Throughout his career, he was celebrated for his credibility, professionalism, and integrity, becoming the longest-serving television news anchor in New York. His significant contributions earned him a place in the Silver Circle of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2000 and induction into the New York State Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame.
