Radio Caroline has been ruled in breach of broadcasting regulations following the erroneous announcement of King Charles III's death. The incident occurred on 19 May during the Barry Marsh Show, when three pre-recorded announcements falsely stated the monarch had passed away.
These messages, which claimed "news media" had confirmed the King's death, were followed by the national anthem and a period of silence on DAB+, while AM listeners heard backup music. A correction and apology were broadcast approximately 30 minutes later.
Media watchdog Ofcom stated the error breached rules on accuracy and timely correction of significant mistakes. The pre-recorded obituary files were accessed by a staff member performing maintenance. Ofcom noted that upon realizing the mistake, the staff member "panicked and left the premises."
